The Bosco di Malabotta in the Parco dei Nebrodi is the finest old-growth forest in Sicily — holly trees (Ilex aquifolium) over 400 years old and holm oak over 200 years old in a forest that has been protected since the Bourbon era. Golden eagle (5 pairs in the Nebrodi) soars overhead. The Peregrine Falcon has 30+ pairs in the park. The forest floor has wild peonies in May.
