Monte Mucrone (2,335 m) above Oropa holds the sanctuary of Oropa, the most visited Marian sanctuary in Italy after Loreto — the black Madonna arrived here (according to legend) brought by St Eustace and given to him by St Luke. A cable car from the sanctuary reaches the mountain lake; a walk continues to the summit.
