Monte Marzano, Vallo di Diano

Monte Marzano (1,563 m) above Padula rises over the Vallo di Diano plain in the Cilento National Park. The beech forest on the upper mountain is old enough for woodpecker cavities used by European wild cat. Wolf is resident and frequently tracked in the forest. The dawn chorus in May is extraordinary — 45+ species recorded in a single morning including black woodpecker and short-toed treecreeper.
