Monte Marrone, Mainarde

Molise

Monte Marrone (1,770 m) was stormed in 1944 by the Italian Corpo di Liberazione, and a bronze "Cristo delle Mainarde" now stands on top. From Castelnuovo al Volturno the path climbs relentlessly through beech to the bald summit ridge, with the Mainarde wall, the Volturno valley and the PNALM peaks all around.
