Monte Generoso (1,701 m) on the Lombardy-Switzerland border above Lake Lugano gives one of the widest panoramas in the Prealps. The Mario Botta-designed summit building (Fiore di Pietra) is a museum and restaurant. The view encompasses Lake Como, Lake Lugano, Lago Maggiore, the Po plain, Appennines south and Bernese Alps north. A rack railway from Capolago (Switzerland) reaches the summit; dogs allowed.
