Monte Forato — l'Arco, Alpi Apuane

Monte Forato (1,223 m) carries a 25 m wind-and-water arch that pierces the crest between the Turrite and Serchio sides of the Apuane. From Fornovolasco or Cardoso steep paths climb through chestnut and beech to the arch, where — on set dates around the equinoxes — the sun sets straight through the hole.
