Bosco del Pigge, Marsciano

The Bosco del Pigge near Marsciano in the Umbrian clay hills is a 280-ha reserve of ancient cerro and downy oak — the last old-growth oak woodland in the flat Tiber plain below Perugia. Trees up to 250 years old. Wild boar, porcupine and tawny owl are common. The forest floor has masses of spring wildflowers (wood anemone, lesser celandine) in March–April. Dogs off-leash on all reserve paths.
