Monte Coglians (Hohe Warte, 2,780 m) is the highest peak of the Carnic Alps and the highest point in Friuli. The approach from Paularo in the Carnia climbs through exceptional old-growth larch and stone pine to a high ridge shared with Austria. Chamois are abundant and ibex were reintroduced in the 1990s; the summit view spans from the Dolomites to the Julian Alps.
