Monte Circeo (541 m) on the Pontine coast was an island until Roman times (the Pontine Marshes connected it to the mainland). The summit was Circe's mythological island — Ulysses spent one year here. The Grotta Guattari below the summit is a Neanderthal site (Neanderthal skull found 1939, 60,000 years old). Peregrine on the south cliff. The forest below is old-growth Macchia Mediterranea. Dogs on leash in national park.
