Monte Ceceri, Fiesole

Tuscany

The cypress-and-holm-oak hill of Ceceri is honeycombed with the abandoned sandstone quarries that supplied Florence's grey stone. Paths from Fiesole or Maiano climb through them to a clearing with a plaque marking Leonardo's 1506 flight attempt and a view over the Arno valley to the Chianti hills.
