Molise
Monte Capraro (1,931 m) is reached from the Molise side of the Matese, a rarely-used approach compared to the Campania approach from Piedimonte Matese. The karst plateau above the treeline has permanent snow patches into June, limestone sinkholes and a population of Apennine chamois introduced as part of a rewilding project. The walk sees single digits of visitors per day even in August.
