Monte Canin, Val Resia

Friuli-Venezia Giulia

Monte Canin (2,587 m) rises above the Val Resia, a remote Friulian valley where an old Slavic language is still spoken by a few hundred people. The summit plateau is karst limestone with glacial remnants and one of the most extensive cave systems in Italy (Abisso Fighiera-Corsi, 1,400 m deep). The views take in the Julian Alps in Slovenia.
