Monte Camicia (2,564 m) is the southernmost summit of the Gran Sasso massif — a knife-edge ridge above the Vomano valley with extraordinary views. The south face is a 1,200 m escarpment. Chamois herds on the summit plateau. Italian wolf pack on the slopes. Golden eagle and peregrine. The approach from Pietracamela passes through old beech below the ridge. Dogs off-leash on the open ridge.
