Monte Bonifato (825 m) rises straight from the plain behind Alcamo, reforested and criss-crossed by tracks. Near the top stand the Castello Ventimiglia ruins, the "Porta della Regina" gate and the domed "Funtanazza" medieval water cistern, with a view over the Gulf of Castellammare to Monte Cofano and the Egadi.
