An old mule track climbs from San Romolo through umbrella pines and chestnut to the antenna-topped summit of Bignone, the mountain that shelters Sanremo's mild microclimate. On clear winter days the view takes in the Ligurian Alps, the Mercantour, the coast into France and Corsica on the sea.
