Monte Avena (1,472 m) above Feltre is a beech-spruce forest plateau with the finest black grouse (lekking ground) in the Veneto — males display from late April. Capercaillie in the old-growth spruce. Golden eagle from the summit viewpoint. The plateau has the Baion archaeological site — Bronze Age lake settlement. The forest road gives easy access for all. Dogs off-leash in the forest.
