Monte Ascensione
Marche
A pilgrimage sanctuary crowns this ridge above Ascoli Piceno, drawing visitors as much for the panorama as for devotion — on a clear day the view reaches from the Sibillini peaks inland to the Adriatic coastline. Oak woods and open pasture alternate along the approach trails, and the ridge marks a natural boundary between the Tronto and Aso river valleys. Wild orchids bloom in the grassland in late spring.
