Monte Albano, Pistoia–Prato
Tuscany
Monte Albano (630 m) between Pistoia and Florence is the forested ridge overlooking Vinci (Leonardo da Vinci's birthplace). The ridge walk gives views south to Florence and north to the Pistoia plain. The landscape below is exactly as Leonardo painted it in the background of the Mona Lisa — this interpretation is contested but the countryside is identical. Hoopoe and golden oriole in the olive groves.
