Montalto, Aspromonte Summit

Montalto (1,955 m) is the highest peak of the Aspromonte and the southernmost alpine summit in mainland Italy. On a clear day both the Tyrrhenian Sea (west) and Ionian Sea (east) are simultaneously visible — the only point in mainland Italy where this is possible. The Apennine wolf pack of Aspromonte is one of the most genetically important in Italy — wolves were never extirpated here even during the persecution era.
