Parco Mont Avic
Aosta Valley
The Parco Naturale Mont Avic in the Champdepraz valley is Aosta's other protected area alongside Gran Paradiso. Its distinguishing feature is the 'lakes of serpentinite' — high-altitude pools sitting on rare ophiolite (ocean crust) rock that gives the water an extraordinary dark-green tint. The park has one of the densest chamois populations in the Alps.
