Militello in Val di Catania was entirely rebuilt in the ornate late-Baroque style after the devastating 1693 earthquake that reshaped much of south-eastern Sicily, its churches and palazzi part of the broader UNESCO-listed Val di Noto group. Countryside paths lead out from town through a patch of native oak and carob woodland at its edge.
