Lido di Policoro, Metaponto

The Lido di Policoro near Metaponto is the longest uninterrupted wild beach on the Italian Ionian coast — 15 km of sand backed by the Bosco Pantano di Policoro forest. Loggerhead turtle nests here every year in June–July (40–60 nests per season). The Magna Graecia ruins of Herakleia and Metapontum are within 5 km. Dogs welcome outside the turtle nesting monitoring zones.
