Matera Sassi Ravine Walk
Basilicata
Matera's sassi (European Capital of Culture 2019) are best seen from the opposite bank of the Gravina ravine. A circular path leaves the Murgia plateau park, descends into the ravine past ancient cave churches and comes back up to frame the entire cave-city across the gorge — a view inhabited continuously since Palaeolithic times.
