Valle della Ripa, Majella
Abruzzo
The Valle della Ripa on the western side of the Majella massif is the quieter alternative to the famous Orfento gorge. The valley floor has a boulder-strewn stream, ancient hawthorn scrub and stands of beech that give way to open limestone pasture at 1,800 m. Apennine chamois graze the ridgelines; golden and Bonelli's eagles hunt the valley. The walk sees almost no other people.
