The Santuario di Nostra Signora di Montallegro (612 m) above Rapallo has been a pilgrimage site since a Byzantine icon appeared there in 1557. The walk up through chestnut terraces reaches the sanctuary terrace with views of the entire Gulf of Tigullio — Rapallo, Santa Margherita Ligure, Portofino promontory, and Sestri Levante.
