Lodi was rebuilt on its current site in the 12th century after the destruction of the older nearby town of Laus Pompeia, and its central Piazza della Vittoria, ringed by continuous porticoes, is regarded as one of the best-preserved medieval arcaded squares in Lombardy. Flat streets radiate out from it across the level Adda plain.
