Salento — Lecce Masserie Walk
Puglia
Lecce, the 'Florence of the South', is entirely built in golden local limestone (pietra leccese) in a baroque style that makes every building a carved sculpture. The flat walk through the olive groves and masserie (fortified farm estates) east of Lecce connects baroque chapels, ancient hypogea (underground necropoli) and olive trees estimated at 1,000 years old.
