Laguna di Santa Gilla between Cagliari and Capoterra is the most important wetland in Sardinia — the largest flamingo colony in Italy (10,000–30,000 birds, largest count in February-March). Spoonbill and glossy ibis also breed here. The lagoon is between the city of Cagliari and the open sea. Avocet colony. Dogs on leash on the lagoon path. Easily reached from Cagliari centre by bike.
