Laguna di Grado, Friuli
Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Grado is an ancient island city in the northern Adriatic lagoon — founded as a refuge from Aquileia during Barbarian invasions, it has a 6th-century cathedral (Sant'Eufemia) with original mosaic floors. The lagoon around Grado has spoonbill, little tern and little egret. Greater flamingo present year-round since 2019. The lagoon is navigated by flat-bottomed barca da pesca. Dogs welcome.
