Sitting right on the regional watershed at around 1775m, this modest lake occupies a bare, wind-scoured saddle near the top of the Corno alle Scale massif, with a small refuge on its shore used by hikers on the long-distance Alta Via dei Parchi route. The surrounding slopes are largely treeless, giving unusually open views for the Emilian Apennines in both directions along the ridge.
