Lago Pratignano
Emilia-Romagna
This shallow, marshy lake near the Cimone massif sits in a glacial hollow that has slowly filled with peat over thousands of years, creating a wetland habitat unusual for the Apennines and home to sundews and other specialised bog plants. A boardwalk crosses the softer ground, and cattle still graze the surrounding high pasture in summer as they have for generations.
