Lago di Place Moulin
Aosta Valley
Place Moulin's dam wall rises nearly 130 metres above the Valpelline floor, holding back a long, glacier-fed reservoir whose colour shifts from jade to deep turquoise depending on glacial silt load. The Grand Combin's ice-clad flank dominates the head of the valley, and the surrounding slopes form part of a chamois and ibex sanctuary. A lakeside trail leads toward Rifugio Prarayer at the reservoir's upper end, gateway to several high alpine passes into Switzerland.
