Lago Omodeo, Sardinia

Sardinia

Lago Omodeo (2,940 ha) is the largest artificial lake in Italy by surface area — created in 1924 by the Tirso river dam. The lake is in the rolling granite hills of central Sardinia. A pair of osprey are confirmed breeding — one of only two breeding pairs in Sardinia. Flamingo regularly use the shallow margins. The lake gives a remarkable inland sea effect in an island landscape.
