From the Val di Luce or the Abetone ski area a path climbs through beech and bilberry to the small Lago Nero, cupped under Monte Gomito, with the boggier Lago Piatto and a bivouac nearby. The crest above is the Tuscany-Emilia watershed, with a view to Lago Scaffaiolo and the Corno alle Scale.
