Lago Monte Cotugno, Basilicata

Basilicata

Lago Monte Cotugno on the Agri river is the largest earth dam in Europe — the reservoir covers 20 km² at 350 m. Osprey and marsh harrier are regular in spring and autumn; great white egret winters here in numbers. The reservoir is surrounded by rolling clay hills and isolated oak groves. The lake shore walk on the western bank is undeveloped and quiet.
