Lago di Mezzola

Lombardy

Separated from Lake Como's northern tip by a narrow strip of reclaimed land, Lago di Mezzola is shallower and wilder than its famous neighbour, ringed by reed beds and wet meadows that form part of the same Ramsar-listed wetland complex as Pian di Spagna. Ospreys pass through on migration and grey herons nest in the surrounding trees year-round. The Bregaglia peaks rise dramatically at the lake's northern end, marking the start of the road toward Switzerland.
