Lago di Villa

Lago di Villa sits at a relatively low altitude for the region, which lets its waters warm enough for casual summer swimming, unlike most of the valley's colder, glacier-fed lakes. A protected reserve surrounds part of the shore, sheltering dragonflies and amphibians in the reed-lined shallows. The village of Challand-Saint-Anselme above the lake retains a scatter of Romanesque chapels and defensive towers from the medieval period.
