Lago di Tarsia
Calabria
Formed by damming the Crati river in the plain below the Pollino foothills, this reservoir and its marshy margins provide habitat for purple herons, kingfishers and wintering ducks in a part of Calabria otherwise dominated by agriculture. A small birdwatching hide overlooks the quieter southern arm. The surrounding plain grows citrus and olives typical of the Sibari lowlands nearby.
