Lago di Sabaudia

Lazio

This brackish lagoon lies just behind the dune line of the Tyrrhenian coast, part of the Circeo National Park established in the 1930s to protect one of the last stretches of Lazio's original coastal wetland. Coot, heron, and flamingo numbers build through the cooler months, and a path along the lagoon's inner edge offers good sightlines without disturbing the birds. Monte Circeo's limestone promontory rises dramatically at the park's southern end.
