Lago di Rascino (1,100 m) in the Cicolano mountains above Rieti is a shallow karst lake on a limestone plateau — the most isolated lake in Lazio. The surrounding beech forest is excellent for porcini in autumn. Wolf has been resident on the plateau since 2005. The plateau is silent and completely undeveloped. No road reaches the lake — 30-minute walk from the nearest parking.
