Lago di Piano near Porlezza is a rare lowland peat-bog lake — the only one in Italy. A flat nature reserve path circles it through reed beds where marsh warblers, little bitterns and purple herons nest. The bog flora includes carnivorous sundew plants and rare orchids. Completely different to the mountain lakes nearby.
