Laghi di Monticchio

The Laghi di Monticchio are twin crater lakes (Lake Grande and Lake Piccolo) nested in the extinct Vulture volcano. A Benedictine abbey (Sant'Ippolito) perches on the cone above the larger lake. The surrounding slopes produce Aglianico del Vulture, one of Italy's finest red wines — aged in volcanic rock cellars.
