Lago di Lesina on the Gargano coast is a large brackish lagoon separated from the Adriatic by a narrow sand bar — one of the most important wetland areas in southern Italy. Greater flamingo (100+ individuals) present year-round. Purple heron and little egret nesting. Eel fishing industry has operated here for centuries. The lagoon is completely flat — the horizon is a straight line in all directions. Dogs welcome on the lagoon path.
