Lago di Guardialfiera (163 m) is Molise's largest body of water — a reservoir on the Biferno river. The lake is the best birding wetland in Molise: osprey fishes in autumn migration; great crested grebe, little grebe, cormorant and marsh harrier are resident. The medieval hill village of Guardialfiera overlooks the reservoir from its 360 m ridge. The lake is quiet and undeveloped.
