Lago di Gerosa, Alta Val Marecchia

Lago di Gerosa (700 m) near Sestino in the Alta Val Marecchia is the most isolated reservoir in the northern Marche — surrounded by chestnut and oak hills with no tourist infrastructure. Golden eagle nests on the limestone outcrops above the lake. The valley is part of the ancient Montefeltro — the duchy of Federico da Montefeltro (the humanist Renaissance duke of Urbino). Wolf is resident.
