Lago di Fogliano

Lazio

Once part of the Caetani family's private coastal estate, this lagoon within Circeo National Park now functions as one of the park's key birdwatching sites, with flamingo flocks a regular sight through the cooler months alongside large numbers of coot and grebe. Umbrella pine woodland separates the lagoon from the open sea just beyond the dunes. Remnants of the old estate buildings still stand near the lagoon's edge, now used for park facilities.
