Lago di Doberdò

Friuli-Venezia Giulia

Unlike a typical lake, Doberdò has no surface outlet, draining and refilling through underground karst channels depending on rainfall, so its level and even its presence can vary dramatically through the year. When full, its reedy margins attract herons, bitterns and a range of dragonflies, making it a small but distinctive stop on the WWI-scarred Carso plateau near Monfalcone.
