Lago di Dobbiaco

Trentino-Alto Adige

Composer Gustav Mahler spent summers nearby and reportedly drew inspiration from this reedy, wetland-fringed lake, which sits at the watershed between the Rienza and Drava river systems. It's noticeably shallower and warmer than the high alpine lakes further up the valleys, and its marshy edges support a good range of waterfowl.
