Lago di Bolsena — Isola Martana Walk

Lago di Bolsena (114 km²) is the largest volcanic lake in Europe — a caldera lake at 305 m. The shore walk from Bolsena passes the medieval village. The Isola Martana in the lake was the prison where Amalasuntha, Queen of the Ostrogoths, was strangled in 535 AD. The lake water is extremely clear (18 m visibility). Great crested grebe, black-necked grebe and osprey all use the lake. Dogs welcome.
