Lago di Alviano near Orvieto is a WWF wetland reserve on the Tiber river — the most important bird site in Umbria. The reserve has breeding purple heron, night heron, little bittern and squacco heron. Osprey were confirmed breeding in 2019 — the only confirmed breeding in Umbria. Glossy ibis is regular in spring. The birdwatching hides give exceptional views.
